New Sleep Remedies Association formed to promote better sleep!

24 October 2006

We all value good health and strive to achieve longer life, and we are now more aware of the dangers of smoking, the effects of obesity, and the causes of diabetes.

However there is little knowledge about the terrible effects of insufficient and inefficient sleep.

Besides fatigue which not only lessens your quality of life and could even end it due to a careless accident, poor sleep leads to many other disorders. Side effects include high blood pressure (hypertension), cardio vascular disease, diabetes, obesity, heart failure, depression and of course SNORING.

Snoring itself, one of the most obvious and annoying symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, not only indicates some disorder, but can damage relationships, not only with your partner, but even with your neighbours!

One of the main causes of a bad night's sleep is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Up to one third of the adult male population and a significant % of women suffer from OSA. The Gold Standard remedy for OSA is a CPAP machine and mask, which gently blows air into the upper airway to prevent snoring and airway collapse. This treatment is a quality of life enhancing and extending remedy.

Another effective remedy is the Mandibular Advance Splint, MAS, a type of mouth guard that opens the airways when sleeping. There are also many new remedies, some of which are effective.

The new Sleep Remedies Association, SRA, invites all organisations that manufacture or supply remedies that help patients have a better night's sleep to join.

"Members of the SRA must agree to maintain ethical standards of advice and treatment, and to sell goods only on their merits," stated Bernhard Kirschner, President and Founder of the SRA. "Good sleep, like good food and exercise is one of the cornerstones of a healthy and long life."

The SRA will disseminate information to both their members and the public, creating a greater awareness of the benefits of good sleep. The SRA will arrange marketing programs for members. The SRA will encourage the application of new technology to screening for sleep disorders, and encourage techniques that reduce the cost of diagnosis and remedies.
